Deathwing is a compilation of short stories based on the Warhammer
40,000 universe. There are ten short stories two of which are written
by Mr King (In fact one of the two was jointly written with another co
author.) For this review I will focus on both of Mr King's Short
stories. The first story "Deathwing" named after the book
cover title was GREAT! I thoroughly enjoyed the
"clansmen/tribesmen" feel of the narrative piece. I won't
give all the story away...but basically in short you have a Deathwing
Terminator Squad with a Librarian alone on a genestealer controlled
planet however that is just the surface of the story and there is
much, much more to it than just that. it is one of the best
short stories in the book.
The second story in the book is also written by Mr King "Devils
Marauders". this one was OK but not as good as the first.
The rest of the book comprises of short stories written by the likes
of Ian Watson, Dan Abnett (his one was pretty good), Graham McNeill,
Gav Thorpe & others. There are one or two let downs, poor stories.
But if you want something to read & your are on a busy schedule,
can only read enough whilst on the train/bus to work or on your well
deserved break, pick up a copy of Deathwing you'll be lightly
entertained.
