Authorised - Bill's Monthly Column

October 2002

Games Day

Well, once again Gamesday has been and gone, and a good time was had by all. I was at the Black Library stand for part of the day and signed a good few books. The rest of the time was spent ligging in the Black Library hospitality suite, or across the way in the Malt House catching up with old friends like Andy Chambers and Adrian Smith. Thanks to everybody who came along to the signing, and to all those people who had kind words for the books. It really is one of those things that makes writing worthwhile.

As ever I did not get time to see as many of the displays as I would like. One that did draw my attention was an amazing mass battle with Gotrek and Felix arriving by ship to help protect a Slann pyramid from the insidious machinations of Grey Seer Thanquol. Of particular interest was the massive warpcannon atop the pyramid with which the Grey Seer intended to blow up the chaos moon Morrsleib and send chunks of blazing warpstone crashing down on the old world. I wish I had thought of that plan.

Wolfblade

Of course, it was not all enjoying the free tea and biccies provided by the Black Library. After Gamesday I spent some time within the ancient walls of Lenton, discussing new books. Possibly the biggest development was being briefed by Andy Chambers about the Navigator Houses for Wolfblade, the upcoming Ragnar novel. Many sinister secrets of these ancient and not entirely trustworthy organisations were passed on to me by the High Overfiend himself.  It looks like Ragnar will be pressed into the service of House Belisarius amid the palaces of old Terra in a tale that will involve intrigue, assassination and ancient betrayals, as well as an elite unit of rogue Space Wolves.

Anybody interested in learning a little more about Belisarius or the Navigators should check out Farseer or the Navigator article I wrote a couple of months back. I may well be expanding on this in the not too distant future.  Release date for Wolfblade looks like Autumn next year- hopefully just in time for Gamesday!

Other Stuff

Giantslayer progresses apace, and is just at the midway point of writing. Our heroes have met Teclis and not a few Chaos daemons, and are now enjoying the hospitality of the strange floating village of Crannog Mere in Albion. The final manuscript should be delivered in November, and on UK release next April.

This will be the last column written in Prague for a while. I am off to Singapore on the 27th for an ill-deserved holiday. The next time you hear from me I will hopefully be lounging under the palm trees.

It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it…

All the best,

Bill
