Death's Angels
Hi. It’s been a while since I last wrote this column, and there have been a fair few developments. I have been putting the finishing touches on Death’s Angels, my tale of mercenary soldiers in a fantasy world ruled by the Terrarchs, a race of extremely nasty elves. I signed on with the
John Jarrold Literary
Agency and have been working with John, an extraordinarily good editor, to polish the book to the brightest shine I can manage. Now I am looking forward to working with him on selling the book. More on this as it happens.
Knights of the Old Republic
Of course, I have been up to other things too. I’ve played a few great games on the Xbox. The best of which was probably Knights of the Old Republic. For the two of you who have not played it, this is an extraordinary good computer RPG set deep in the past history of the Star Wars universe. You start out trapped on a backwater planet by the forces of the Sith, and must eventually gain enough power to put down the Sith Lord Darth Revan one way or another. The astonishing thing is that you can play the game on the Dark Side or the Light, and your choices really do appear to make a difference. So far I have only completed the game on the Light Side but who knows one day I may fall to the lures of the Dark Side.
Hero Games
I have also been playing a pen and paper RPG using the Hero system and based on Chinese Wuxia movies. So far Master Chang and his indomitable assistant, Pak Jun have done battle with some extremely nasty Chinese Vampires, a Chaos tree spirit corrupted by the darkness, and assorted demons and monsters. The Hero system handles characters who can leap small buildings in a single bound and break walls with their bare fists extremely well.
I have long been a fan of this system which has given me many hours of enjoyment over the past 20+ years, and I highly recommend it to anybody who has an interest in larger than life action gaming. Steve Long and the rest of his team at DoJ have done a remarkable job supporting the system since they took it over. I particularly recommend Fantasy Hero which presently holds the title of Bill’s Favourite RPG supplement ever.
Bye until next month
Bill
