Authorised July 2004

- Bill's Monthly Column -

Hello again. It’s summer here in the Czech Republic and that means I can get out my mountain bike and ride along the banks of the Vlatva river. A beautiful new cycle path has been built since the floods of a few years back, and I cannot begin to tell you how much pleasure it gives me to use it.

Death's Angels

Just in case you think all the nice weather and cycling means that not much work is getting done, I have to say that you are right. It's one of those in-between summer periods where I just laze around and wait for developments. The new book Death’s Angels is with my trusty group of test readers. Once I get their comments I will proceed with any rewriting that’s necessary.

Warhammer

I have not been completely lazy though. I have begun planning more books and short stories including making notes on some more Gotrek and Felix stuff. Dark elves, the Land of the Dead and assorted fallout effects from the last great Chaos incursion all feature quite heavily here. All of this is quite handy since BL’s head honcho Marc Gascoigne is due to descend on Prague with fire and, of course, the sword, at some point this month, and we will be discussing assorted new and exciting Warhammer related projects.

Sword and Sorcery

I have also finished work for the moment on my set of d20 Sword and Sorcery rules. (You can find them as a webpage here and downloads will be available soon.) These represent something of a labour of love for me. S&S is my favourite sub-genre of fantasy ever since I was a teenager and I’ve often wanted to run a campaign in that style.

Eberron

In my relentless quest for more d20 stuff I picked up a copy of Eberron and was very impressed. It’s an interesting take on the fantasy world more influenced by things like Japanese anime, Final Fantasy games and unless I miss my guess Steven Erikson’s beautifully detailed world of the Malazan Books of the Fallen. I’ve always been a sucker for the flying ship, magic as technology style of Final Fantasy so I really liked this aspect of Eberron. And what’s not to love about intelligent player character war golems? A world to keep a close eye on, I think

Right, once again that's it for this month. 'Til next time...

All the best

Bill
