Biography

Born in
Stranraer, Scotland on the 7th of December 1959, William John King is the eldest
of five siblings. He attended Dalrymple Primary school and then
Stranraer Academy where he excelled in academic studies, swimming and
chess.
Probably the only person
I know who has ever attained both Higher Latin and Greek (there's
a story behind that but we shall leave that for another day), he went
off to Edinburgh University in 1977 to study English. Alas,
once there, he soon discovered those age-old student distractions
of beer, wild parties, wilder women and probably worst of all, D&D! So
ended a glittering educational career and began a 25 year obsession
with gaming, which fortunately for him, was to stand him in good stead for
his eventual profession.....
It took him a while to
find out what this profession was though. Over the years, he has had
a wide variety of jobs - from labourer to civil servant and he
even did a stint in a chocolate factory. Eventually, however, his love
of both writing and gaming found the ideal outlet. Bill went
to work for Games Workshop back in 1989 (click here
to see how it all started!) and has been working for them
off and on ever since. Somewhere in the past twelve years, he
has also found the time to produce an awarding winning game, script
a few comics and start his own company but is currently concentrating
solely on his writing.
This is probably just
aswell. Having developed the travel bug back in the late 80's, his
current occupation is ideal, allowing him to take his work where-ever
he goes and that has included many places! His itchy feet have taken
him throughout Europe and Asia and he has enjoyed brief sabbaticals
in both Australia and the States. He eventually settled in
Prague, using it as a base for his travels and this is where he met and
married his lovely wife, Radka in September 2005.
Bill and family relocated to Scotland in 2006 and are currently enjoying
the city life in Glasgow. At least until his feet start to get itchy
again....
